 OBJECTIVES:
This experiential workshop identifies and critiques good practice on how to create and enhance meaningful opportunities for intercultural interactions between international and local students.  Many institutions are beginning to re-focus their international student support efforts on the social and cultural experience of international students on their campuses. Similarly, many are seeking strategies to enhance interactions between international and local students so that the latter can develop attributes of global citizenship and intercultural intelligence. This workshop will use leading Australian and international research, as well as panellists and case studies from various education sectors to enable workshop participants to design and implement innovative and effective intercultural inclusion programs. Participants will further develop their knowledge and skills to enable them to take a lead in the design and implementation of programs suitable to their institutional context.

TARGET AUDIENCE:
Management and student support staff in all education sectors responsible for the support and well-being of international students and for allocating resources for this purpose.

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:
The workshop will provide an up-to-date briefing on the research literature on:
- The concept of intercultural inclusiveness
- What is known of the integration experience of international students
-  Barrier to social integration and how these can be overcome on campus
- Strategies to help local students gain the knowledge and skills for the global marketplace through creating interculturally inclusive activities within and beyond the classroom.

The workshop will provide a hands-on exploration of how to budget for, design, implement and evaluate programs to address the challenge of intercultural inclusion using good practice examples implemented within different education sectors within Australia.

WORKSHOP MODE:
Short presentations, discussion, interactive small group work; panel of cross-sectoral staff presenting their good practice examples
