AIEC Pre-Conference Workshops (Tuesday 2 October 2012) IEAA has put together a jam-packed program for this year's pre-conference workshops at AIEC.
These optional workshops are a great opportunity to develop your expertise in a more intimate setting than larger conference sessions. They're also open to staff who aren't attending the main conference, but wish to particpate in a half-day workshop.
IEAA members, IDP clients and international delegates are eliglbe for a discounted rate. A light lunch will be provided to those attending both a morning and an afternoon workshop.

1. Embedding English Language Development across the Curriculum This workshop explores models and strategies for embedding English language across the curriculum. Participants will examine various models of embedding language skills and gain an appreciation for how student diversity can enhance such strategies. |

Contemporary Issues in International Education (Schools) Canning College (WA) will present a case study on developing international programs, focusing on curriculum changes, student support systems, working with agents and developing international links. Renowned cyber safety expert Susan McLean will also explore how you can help protect your students in the cyber world. |

3. Managing Critical Incidents While many hope that critical incidents are rare, when they do happen, substantial resourcing is required and clear procedures are crucial. This session provides attendees with practical ideas, procedural guidelines and relevant steps for managing critical incidents. |

5. University Pathways: Providing Opportunities for Students and Institutions This session provides an overview of current and projected trends in the pathways sector. It will evaluate the impact of current government policy and recent regulatory changes, including the introduction of TEQSA, the revised AQF and streamlined visa processing. It will also explore best practice examples in the use of technology and student engagement. |

6. Intercultural Capacity Building For Students, Staff and the Curricula Developing global graduates who have the communication skills to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds is one of the key challenges in higher education. This workshop will showcase the results of an action research project that has developed good practice examples of intercultural skills development in the curricula and beyond. |

It will explore how institutions can maximise outcomes from multiple partnerships and stakeholders, including alumni. 8. Surviving and Thriving in International Education Management in 2012 The workshop will appeal to middle managers coming to grips with some of the current challenges facing international education. It will assist participants to succeed in the planning and delivery of program development, student recruitment, student support and essential compliance activities. |
