Admissions & Compliance

The Admissions & Compliance Special Interest Group (SIG) aims to provide support, professional development and networking opportunities for IEAA members and other interested professionals who work, or have an interest, in international admissions and/or compliance.

Membership is open to IEAA members and non-members.

Objectives

The SIG aims to provide:

  • Workshops on international admissions and compliance related issues including, but not limited to; international admissions; Education Services for Overseas Students Act (2000) [ESOS]; Tuition Protection Service [TPS]; Australian Autonomous Sanctions Act (2011); Simplified Student Visa Framework (SSVF) and student visa issues
  • Workshops or forums with industry peak bodies, Government departments and other stakeholders regarding long term strategies and opportunities
  • Networking events allowing specialised staff to meet others working in similar roles, allowing for the sharing of information and best practice.

Current conveners

Geza Karacsony, Convener

Geza has worked in international education for over 20 years, as an ELICOS teacher, senior education officer and as policy and compliance specialist in the university sector. His main interest is in the broader context in which the particular details take place. He strongly believes in an open and cooperative approach to policy and compliance, sharing ideas and best practice.


Ingrid Elliston, Deputy Convener

Ingrid is Manager of International Admissions and Recruitment at the University of New England. She has been involved in international education since 1994. She is particularly interested in international admissions and associated compliance issues and how managing these is critical to successful international student recruitment strategies.


Irene Koh, Deputy Convener

Irene is Director, Student and Academic Services at Bond University. Her experience in education spans more than 20 years and includes working in course and research admin, university governance, academic regulations, and admissions. For the past 10 years Irene has been involved with interpretation and implementation of Government legislation, specifically HESA, ESOS and the National Code.
