International students and work rights – confusing? Not any more.

Temporary visa holders, including international students, now have access to new protections as part of a two-year pilot. Understand the new Workplace Justice Visa + international student general rights and entitlements at work. Find out how students can protect themselves from exploitation and take action if something isn’t right with experts from the Queensland Migrant WorkWise team.

Queensland Migrant WorkWise is a new free and confidential service delivered by the Queensland Council of Unions and funded by the Department of Home Affairs. Programs like this are running in every state and territory, so the information applies nationwide.

  • Professional and academic staff working with international students at all levels of study;
  • Anyone working with international students on temporary visas

Webinar participants will come away with a better understanding of:

Susan Schlinker, IEAA-AF 

Senior Talent and Employability Officer 

Study Queensland, Trade & Investment Queensland 

With nearly eight years’ experience in international education, Susan Schlinker is a passionate advocate for international talent and student experiential learning. As the Senior Talent and Employability Officer at Study Queensland, she developed and managed the ‘Talent-Ed’ employability program connecting international students with employers and industry across Queensland. Susan previously coordinated the Higher Degree Research (HDR) Industry Engagement program, and the Creative Industries Mobility program at QUT. Susan currently serves as the Deputy Co-Convenor of the IEAA Student Life Network, and as a Queensland Committee Member for Work Integrated Learning Australia. She previously contributed as the IEAA Qld Young Professionals Co-Chair 2021-2022.

Rosa Sottile 

Project Director, Queensland Migrant WorkWise 

Queensland Council of Unions 

Rosa Sottile is the Project Director of Queensland Migrant WorkWise. Queensland Migrant WorkWise (QMWW) is a free education and information program that supports temporary migrant workers across Queensland. Queensland Migrant WorkWise is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Home Affairs and delivered by the Queensland Council of Unions. We are also supported through partnerships with the Migrant Workers Centre in Victoria and the Immigration Advice and Rights Centre in New South Wales.

Once you are logged in you need to:

  1. Register yourself (following the individual registration steps).
  2. Choose another person Register additional people from your organisation by selecting register someone else.
  3. Select 'Register Someone Else' to add another person from your organisation.
  4. Enter the name in the search field and select.
  5. Select 'Save' to add them to your registration.
  6. Choose the registration options for each individual.
  7. Repeat for additional people.
  8. Proceed to checkout to complete your registration.
