This webinar is an initiative of IEAA’s Emerging Researchers Group and is one of a series of webinars that IEAA will deliver in 2024 focused on prospective and current emerging researchers in international education. 

Are you a current research student working on a topic related to international education or an emerging international education researcher-practitioner? Do you seek more information about communicating your research to audiences in Australia and globally through traditional and non-traditional channels?    

This panel features the perspectives of established and emerging international education researchers and researcher-practitioners who are experienced in communicating their research. This webinar will focus on providing advice and tips regarding both traditional (journals, books, conferences) and non-traditional (e-books, webinars, social media, podcasts) communication channels.  

This webinar is open to IEAA Members and non-members and is free of charge. We encourage you to share this information with peers and colleagues who are emerging international education researchers. 

Audience

This webinar is relevant to current research students (PhD / Masters / Honours) who are working on a topic relevant to international education as well as international education researcher-practitioners.  

Outcomes

Webinar participants will:

  • Learn about a diverse range of traditional and non-traditional communication channels for research related to international education as well as proposal, submission and publication processes. 
  • Hear from established and emerging international education researchers and researcher-practitioners, including the Editor-in Chief of the Journal of Studies in International Education, the founder of Studymove and a previous recipient of IEAA’s Outstanding Thesis Award.
  • Learn more about IEAA’s Emerging Researchers Group and planned future activities.

A/Prof Amanda Daly, IEAA-SF 

Director (EmpowerED) 

Griffith University 

Amanda is Academic Director, EmpowerED University Preparation Program at Griffith University. Previously, she was the Deputy Dean of Learning & Teaching at Griffith Business School, where she led various initiatives to enhance student retention and satisfaction. Amanda has received multiple awards, including the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence. Over the last 20 years, Amanda has worked within education as an administrator, university educator and researcher, with a specific focus on international students and student mobility. She also has a wealth of experience as an academic and curriculum developer driving the internationalisation of the curriculum and enhancing the student experience. Amanda is the inaugural Chair of IEAA’s Emerging Researchers Group, which is a sub-committee of the Research Committee.

Dr Anna Kent, IEAA-SF 

Researcher 

Deakin University 

Anna is a historian and international education expert with. Prior to her PhD she worked in scholarships management, international education and higher education policy. Anna is currently the Executive Coordinator of the Centre for Contemporary Histories and an Associate Teaching Fellow at Deakin University. Her first book, Mandates and Missteps, was published by ANU Press in 2024. Her research interests include international education, international development, foreign policy, decolonisation and the intersections between these things. Anna has a PhD from Deakin University. Her thesis was awarded the Outstanding Postgraduate Thesis Award in the 2022 IEAA Excellence Awards. Anna is a Senior Fellow of the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA) and was the inaugural convener of the IEAA Scholarships and Fellowships Network.

Emeritus Prof Betty Leask, IEAA-SF 

Professor Emerita, School of Education 

La Trobe University 

Betty Leask is Professor Emerita in the School of Education at La Trobe University and Editor-in Chief of the Journal of Studies in International Education. She is also a Research Fellow at the Centre for International Higher Education (CIHE) at Boston College US, an Honorary Visiting Researcher at the Centre for Higher Education Internationalisation at Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore Italy and a Senior Research Fellow at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. In February 2024 Betty was appointed as Chair of DFAT’s Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR).

Keri Ramirez 

Managing Director and Co-Founder

Keri is an Economist with over 18 years’ experience in international education. He previously worked at Macquarie University after completing his Master in International Business. He was the Virtual Marketing Coordinator at Macquarie International which saw him manage, not only the universities international online marketing strategies, but also managed the marketing intelligence reports, student communication and enquiry protocols for Macquarie International. He established Studymove in 2007 and has completed various consulting projects for numerous Australian and International universities in the areas of benchmarking in Learning Abroad, marketing intelligence and online marketing. Keri loves stats and loves telling a story with data! He has presented at various domestic and international conferences including AIEC, APAIE and NAFSA. Keri won the 2025 IEAA Excellence Award in Professional Commentary.
