For many international education professionals, building a career can feel exciting but unclear. Progression is not always linear, opportunities can come through different pathways and it is not always obvious what is needed to take the next step.

Join us for a meeting with the AUIDF Directors, a panel session unpacking careers in International Education sector. Through a moderated panel discussion, senior leaders in international education will be sharing their reflections from their own career journeys, including the roles, decisions and experiences that shaped their progression. The discussion will explore what Directors look for in emerging professionals, how to build credibility across teams and institutions and how to think more strategically about long-term career growth in a changing sector.

Key topics will include, but not limited to:

  • Career pathways across international education
  • What senior leaders look for in emerging professionals
  • Skills, experience and judgement that support career progression
  • How to build visibility, credibility and confidence
  • Navigating change, opportunity and career transitions
  • Practical advice for developing a long-term career in the sector

You will leave with practical insights, career advice and sector perspectives to help you better understand your next steps and future opportunities in international education.

This event is open to IEAA members and all emerging professionals in international education.

Amy Gledden 

Interim Executive Director 

Monash University 

Amy is responsible for domestic and international student recruitment and admissions for Monash University Australia, Monash College and Monash University Indonesia. Amy has been with Monash for just under 8 years in both central and faculty roles leading enabling functions, strategy, planning and operations. Prior to joining Monash, Amy enjoyed a 22-year career with Victoria Police culminating in her final role as a Superintendent leading an operational division. Amy is an energetic and people-focused leader with a strong record of uplifting team culture, capability and performance and transforming systems and processes to deliver more efficient, results driven and outcome focused services.

Woendi Hampton, IEAA-SF 

Director, International 

University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) 

Woendi is the Director, International at the University of the Sunshine Coast, where she leads the University’s international student recruitment, marketing, admissions, compliance, partnerships and learning abroad operations. Woendi has held numerous industry representative roles throughout her career and currently serves as the Deputy Chair & Treasurer of the Australian Universities International Directors’ Forum (AUIDF). With over 20 years of experience in the higher education sector, she is an accomplished leader and has made significant contributions to the field. Her dedication to advancing the sector has been recognised with an Australian Award for University Teaching, and she is a Senior Fellow of the International Education Association of Australia.

Hon Phil Honeywood, IEAA-SF 

Chief Executive Officer 

International Education Association of Australia 

Phil has been IEAA's Chief Executive Officer since November 2011. Previously, he was a Member of the Victorian State Parliament (1988–2006), Minister for Tertiary Education, Training and Multicultural Affairs (1996–1999) and Deputy Leader of the Opposition (2002–2006). Since retiring from politics, Phil worked at Stott’s Business College and Cambridge International College. Phil is the Chairman of the Roundtable of International Education Peak Body CEOs and a member of the Tuition Protection Service Board. Phil is also a Board member of the Bennelong Philanthropic Foundation and the Bangarra Group Board.

Chang (Charles) Liu 

Regional Manager - International Recruitment 

La Trobe University 

Charles is Regional Manager at La Trobe University, overseeing onshore markets, the Pacific Islands, and Indonesia. With a strong focus on strategic planning and innovative approaches, Charles has driven robust growth in student recruitment through a data driven mindset. Beginning a career in international education in 2015 as a counsellor, Charles developed counselling expertise and sector knowledge before moving into data reporting, shaped by a background in bioinformatics. This analytical foundation led to a role at Navitas, managing La Trobe College Australia during COVID 19 and adapting to the shift toward virtual promotion. Today, Charles combines counselling experience, data insights, and strategic innovation to deliver sustainable outcomes and remains committed to advancing international education through collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Pamela Stanley 

Manager - International Monitoring & Pathways 

Box Hill Institute 

Pamela is currently the Regional Manager at Trinity College, where she leads and manages the student recruitment strategy across Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Brunei. Fluent in multiple languages and having studied and lived in both Indonesia and Australia, she brings a nuanced understanding of educational markets in Southeast Asia and the broader Western context, which enables her to design strategies that resonate with their backgrounds. She believes in the transformative power of education and is committed to fostering professional growth within the international education sector. She has built a career in higher education marketing and recruitment, with roles at institutions such as RMIT and Trinity College. These experiences had honed her leadership and strategic skills, enabling her to implement innovative approaches to international student recruitment.

Joel Wittwer 

Head of International Relations 

Murdoch University 

Joel Wittwer is the Head of International Relations at Murdoch University. With more than 18 years' experience in international higher education, he has worked across student mobility, international recruitment, agent management, global partnerships and international engagement. He currently leads Murdoch University's international relations portfolio, including partnerships, pathways, scholarships, sponsored students, mobility programs and agent networks.
