Australian Government releases Asia capability report

The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Education has presented the ‘Security and Prosperity in Asia: Building Australia’s Asia capability’ report.

The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Education has presented the ‘Security and Prosperity in Asia: Building Australia’s Asia capability’ report of its inquiry into building Asia capability in Australia through the education system and beyond.

Committee Chair, Hon Tim Watts MP, said “Australia faces its most challenging strategic environment since the Second World War. Our security and prosperity are intertwined with our region. While Australian statecraft in Asia has never been more active than it is today, the pipeline building the capability that enables it is in crisis”.

The Committee has made 34 recommendations to re-prioritise Asia within the education system and to ensure all Australians can learn about Asia and its languages.
